Robot Creator Annoyed with Justin Bieber Appearance On CES

It’s no secret that Justin Bieber causes mass chaos wherever he goes, but in some cases, him and his mob are not a welcome sight. Understandably, one robot creator was especially annoyed by the Justin's recent appearance at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show, as it meant his first ever innovations went overlooked.
“We’re pretty much shut down,” David Shafter said of the onslaught; a result of the ‘Baby’ singer’s presence. “We can’t run our demos.” When Justin made his way into the convention on Wednesday afternoon, grown adults were swarming the booth next to Shafter’s, hoping to snag a photo or just see him up close, which made Shafter’s set-up virtually invisible.
Clearly, Shafter is not a Belieber. The Xybotyx founder was at the electronics event to launch a $100 and some change robotic gadget that is controlled by a user’s iPhone or iPod Touch. Shafter’s company is a start-up, and this is their first product.

The creator’s business partner Dan McShan wasn’t exactly hopping over booths to grab a glimpse of the JB, either. “It’s the best of times, it’s the worst of times,” he said, joking, “We’re trying to get him to defect. It’s definitely costing us valuable hours of time with our target audience.”
JB too had business at the Consumer Electronics Show — he was there to help TOSY launch a portable speaker which morphs into a dancing robot. Still, other vendors were not amused, and Shafter said that he plans to speak with CES about being compensated for time lost, thanks to Justin.

TOSY and Justin Bieber announce mRobo: we go hands-on, dance-off

Beethoven's Fifth. Michelangelo's Pietà. Plato's Republic. Cornerstones of human civilization, to be sure, but they all pale in comparison to what we saw today at CES: TOSY's new mRobo robot, inspired by none other than the Cultural Colossus of our time, Justin Bieber. The Vietnamese manufacturer and pubescent Prince have just taken the wraps off their latest collaboration: a petite, portable speaker-robot that dances -- nay, transcends -- just like his only slightly larger progenitor counterpart. When in speaker mode, the mRomo weighs in at just 3.3 pounds, stands a little under eight inches tall, and boasts 2GB of internal memory. Its integrated speaker pumps out the jams at bass levels 40Hz, but the real magic happens once the music starts playing, automatically prompting the system to transform into an 18-inch tall robot and start dancing. Unfortunately, the bot is still in prototype mode, but it's expected to retail for about $200 when it launches during the fall of 2012.

Today, though, we were lucky enough to get a sneak peak of the mRobo, courtesy of a mic'd-up Messiah with sweepy bangs and a leather jacket. Upon taking the stage to roars of applause and Jelly Bean sunshowers, Justin went on to do a brief demo of the bot, displaying its ability to sync its dance moves to whatever tunes blare out of its abdomen speaker -- in this case, Billie Jean. The mRobo looked admittedly clumsy at times, and was especially awkward when onstage with the teen phenom, but, as TOSY repeatedly reminded us, it's still in prototype phase. (Justin, for his part, looked completely awestruck throughout much of the experience.) Before descending from his bubblegum pulpit, JB reminded his acolytes to "follow your dreams." Ours, at least, have just been realized. Follow yours past the break, straight to our hands-on video.

Justin Bieber to Unveil Tosy Entertainment Robot at CES 2012

Justin Bieber will be at next week's CES 2012 to introduce the new Tosy entertainment robot.  Some would say that he's the entertainment robot, but robotics haven't got that far yet!
So, what is an entertainment robot?
An online definition describes it as a very sophisticated toy, which is kind of disappointing. The Tosy robot is a smaller version of their breakthrough, life-like, full-sized robot which can actually beat humans at ping-pong.
Too bad. It would be better if they could beat some humans at singing and dancing. But the Tosy robot is apparently just for cracking people up. How?
By doing comical pratfalls and putting on funny faces when its human owner puts a hand in front of their eyes. So, obviously, entertainment robots have a long way to go.
But with a big star like Justin Bieber introducing this new technology to the world, it shouldn't be too long until the Tosy company sells enough robots to make them do a whole lot more entertaining.
Just as long as they don't become self-aware, take down the electrical grid and enslave humanity for bio-food.
The beginning of the end of civilization starts on January 11th between 1-3 p.m. at the Tosy Robotics booth in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Justin Bieber signs on ...

Dealership, pop star aim to help skate park

An improved skateboard park is no pipe dream thanks to a hot set of wheels.
Justin Bieber has teamed up with Frank Sandola, dealer principal at Stratford Hyundai, to raise money to refurbish the skatepark on Downie Street.
Bieber popped into the local dealership and signed a 2012 red Genesis Turbo Coupe which will be auctioned off on eBay next month.
Sandola sold Bieber's grandmother Diane Dale a car a while back and that's how it all got started.
He said:

"After getting to know Diane I was trying to figure out a way to help the city and involve Justin. I approached Diane about it,".
Word went through the proper channels and Sandola was told Bieber agreed to sign the car for a cause. Sandola let Bieber decide exactly where the money should go and he chose the skate park.
"He wants to give the kids somewhere to go and do their thing," Sandola said.
All proceeds from the $40,000 car will go to the skate park, Sandola said.

Bieber signed the driver's side sun visor, the accompanying paperwork which includes the vehicle identification number (VIN), the passenger's side dashboard and added music notes and wrote a note on the brochure for the car: "Congrats. Looks like you're the lucky winner. Justin Bieber." All of that will go with the car as well as pictures of Bieber signing the car and other items.
The car is currently in the showroom of the dealership. Sandola is considering accepting donations from fans who want to have pictures taken with the car. The proceeds will still go to the skatepark.

Justin Bieber Makes Men Scream Like Girls In Macys' Black Friday Ad

Justin Bieber is used to making girls scream, but it’s probably rare that he makes grown men scream like little girls. In a hilarious new Macy’s Black Friday ad, the ‘Mistletoe‘ star is put off by a number of starstruck guys as he promotes his new Someday fragrance.
In the commercial, the Biebs hops into the back of a private car, where he prompts the driver to take him to the Macy’s Black Friday sale. But when the chauffeur turns around to greet the 17-year-old heartthrob, his ‘hello’ turns into an unexpectedly funny shriek.
But it doesn’t stop there! Somehow, Bieber does make it to the department store, where he’s met by two tough-looking guys stocking cases of his new perfume near the entrance. By this time, we know what to expect, but it’s still just as hilarious when the dudes start screaming, as one of them is reaching for the ‘Baby’ star and the other is jumping up and down like a true Belieber.
Justin encounters two more overly-excited adult men before the end of his 30-second commercial spot, but he quickly learns to embrace it, telling one store clerk, “I guess you’re excited, too!” Macy’s, which opens at midnight on Black Friday, will be a huge promoter of Bieber’s Someday fragrance the day after Thanksgiving; each Justin Bieber Someday gift set sold will also send $2 (per sale) to the Make a Wish foundation.
Better get there early!
